White tactile indicators are the option intended for dark finishes and poorly lit areas. On black granite, dark porcelain stoneware, asphalt or dark grey concrete a white element delivers the greatest difference in luminance. In a dimly lit corridor, an underpass, or across a site in the evening that difference matters especially: even with the eye adapted to darkness a white surface stays clearly distinguishable.

The indicator comes in two forms. The bar forms a continuous guide or boundary that reads well against a dark background, while the stud marks the warning field at the head of a staircase, in front of a ramp and at a platform edge. The diamond relief is felt underfoot and through a cane tip and works against slipping on a wet finish. When choosing white, the cleaning regime is worth considering too: marks show sooner on a light surface, so it suits regularly cleaned areas better.

The white version is chosen for underpasses, metro and railway platforms, administrative buildings with dark granite floors, sites used in the evening, and car parks. If an area is used at night, a white indicator is logically planned together with the lighting: light and contrast working together give the best result.
