Black tactile indicators are the solution intended for light floor finishes. In accessible design yellow is often taken as the standard, yet the underlying requirement concerns not colour but luminance contrast against the background. On white marble, pale porcelain stoneware or light beige tiling a yellow indicator all but disappears — and on that kind of floor the black version becomes the correct choice.

The indicator comes in two forms. The bar forms a continuous guide or boundary that stays clearly visible against a light background, while the stud marks the warning field at the head of a staircase and in front of a ramp. The diamond relief is felt underfoot and through a cane tip; black also brings a practical benefit — dust and marks show less on it, so it keeps a tidy appearance longer in busy entrance areas.
