Red tactile indicators carry the meaning of danger and of an unconditional stop. The strength of red is that it reads the same way across cultures: a person slows down on seeing it even before making a conscious decision. For that reason it belongs not along a whole route but precisely at boundary points — where going further is hazardous.

The indicator comes in two forms. The bar forms a continuous boundary: a platform edge, the hazard zone of a production area, the lip of a loading bay. The stud marks a stopping zone — before a vehicle crossing, in a waiting area by an exit door. The diamond relief on the surface is clearly felt underfoot and through a cane tip, and it works against slipping on a wet finish. Red remains distinguishable against both dark concrete and light tiling.
